THINGS TO DO IN TUXON
THE REAL TUCSON
Skip the tourist traps. Here's where locals actually go.
Cartel Coffee Lab: Third-wave coffee that takes itself seriously (in a good way). Their downtown spot has grit and soul in all the right ways.
Exo Roast Co: Local roasters who know their beans. Less scene, more substance.
Presta Coffee Roasters: Design-y local favorite with great roasts. Try the Mercado or 1st Ave locations.
Breakfast / Lunch
5 Points Market – Real neighborhood vibes. Everything on the menu hits.
El Güero Canelo – Sonoran hot dogs that'll ruin you for all others. Pro tip: bring cash.
Barrio Bread – Line up early—pastries sell out fast. Worth it every time.
Meals Worth the Drive
Seis Kitchen – Elevated fast-casual Mexican, no fuss. Two great locations: Mercado and Joesler.
BATA – Wood-fired, seasonal, and easily one of Tucson's best modern dining spots.
The Coronet – Cocktails and small plates. Where Tucson's restaurant crowd goes to hang.
Tumerico – Plant-based Mexican food that even carnivores crave.
Cocktails
The Shelter – Speakeasy vibes without the attitude. Ask for the mezcal list.
Tough Luck Club – Underground cocktail bar beneath Reilly. Great drinks, great scene.
Scott & Co. – Craft cocktails in a restored 1920s pharmacy. Stylish and legit.
Beer
Pueblo Vida Brewing – Killer local brews, sunset-worthy patio.
Dragoon Brewing – Tucson's OG craft brewery. Grab the IPA.
Late Night
The Surly Wench Pub – Dive-y in the best way. Real locals, real history, real character.
Arizona State Museum – Actual Southwestern history. Skip the kitsch.
MOCA Tucson – Contemporary art in a converted fire station. Small, weird, and awesome.
Tucson Museum of Art – Solid collection and a dreamy courtyard.
4th Avenue – Vintage shops, local boutiques, and prime people-watching. Start at Congress, walk north.
Desert Hiking
Saguaro National Park East – The desert dreamscape. Go at sunset.
Sabino Canyon – Tram if it's hot, hike if it's not.
Tumamoc Hill – Beloved sunrise hike. Just 15 minutes from downtown.
Gates Pass Overlook – Best sunset views in town. Full desert drama.
Mountain Escape
Mount Lemmon – Pine trees, 20 degrees cooler, and a scenic drive worth every mile.
4th Avenue – Vintage, indie, weird, and wonderful.
Why I Love Where I Live – Thoughtful souvenirs and desert-inspired goods.
Antigone Books – Indie bookstore holding it down since '73.
La Encantada – Outdoor mall with mountain views. Surprisingly chill.
GETTING AROUND
Walking – The downtown core is super walkable. We're 5 minutes from Congress Street.
Biking – Grab a complimentary bike. The Chuck Huckelberry Loop is perfect for cruising.
Driving – Most spots are 10-15 minutes away. Free parking, minimal stress. (This isn't Phoenix.)
Sun Link Streetcar – Connects downtown to the university. Not always efficient, but definitely charming.
INSIDER TIPS
Summer Survival – June-August = brutal. Plan indoor hangs from 11am-5pm.
Monsoon Season – July-August storms are wild. Don't hike when clouds start stacking.
Best Weather – October-April. Prime for hiking, dining, and pool time.
Local Lingo – It's "Tucson," not "Tuc-son." And yes, Chile goes on everything.
Festival Season – The Gem & Mineral Show (Feb) takes over the city. Book early—or steer clear.
Tourist trap, but still kinda iconic.
Quirky arts town with way better vibes than Tombstone.
Underground caves = natural AC.
60 miles south. Bring your passport—and your appetite.
